Have you ever been part of a group conversation that begins with someone saying: ” You know, this town ought to have a _____.” For us, it was our friend Jack who felt Sandwich “oughta” have some live music. Something for grown-ups. Something fun to do during the Fall, Winter and Spring months when he couldn’t get out on the water, and we weren’t collecting children, firewood, food & beverage for bonfires on the beach. We all agreed with Jack – everyone always agrees with the Idea Man during these conversations – and then went back to watching the Patriots.
But Jack is not just the Idea Man, he is the Persistent Man. During half-time he pondered: “Where would be a good spot to have concerts; to have a coffeehouse?”
Someone else offered: ” What about the Grange Hall?”
That got John’s attention. “Well, it does sound like a great use for the old Hall. It has a stage, and you know back in the day was used for all types of entertainment for the local folk.”
Before the football season was over, meetings were being held; “members” were being recruited. Rob came on board, and he knew Lou and Lou knew music and sound engineering.
We were having us a coffeehouse…and we haven’t looked back!
